Teaching at PKN STAN

Few days ago, I just finished grading the end-of-term exams for my two Public Sector Data Analytics classes, and I want to take a moment to reflect on this incredible journey over the last semester.

Here are a few of my biggest takeaways:

  • Always prepare for surprises: At first, I was prepared to co-teach two classes with another lecturer. However, due to unexpected changes, I ended up teaching both classes full-term. This ultimately made me a more disciplined person, as I had to balance managing my time as an internal auditor with running both courses.
  • Engagement is everything: I learned how to adapt my communication style to keep the energy high and encourage active participation. Seeing students eagerly jump into the discussion is incredibly rewarding.
  • Balancing fairness and motivation: Grading fairly while keeping students motivated and confident throughout the entire semester is a delicate balance, and it pushed me to be a better mentor.

A 1.5-hour lecture is simply never enough to cover the vast, fascinating world of data in the public sector! We always had more to discuss when the clock ran out. To my students, I hope this class is just the beginning for you. Keep moving forward, and never lose your curiosity for learning new things.

Bonus snapshots from the last session across both classes! πŸ“ΈπŸ‘‡
